Objectives of the Department
The Department of Counselling Psychology is designed to achieve the following objectives:
- To produce highly motivated, effective and efficiently skilled educationists, counsellors,
and applied psychologists for schools, communities, non-governmental organizations,
hospitals, and other align institutions or centres. - To produce highly committed and problem-solving students.
- To develop and produce competent and innovative researchers and teachers in Guidance
and Counselling for the Nigerian education system. - To provide professionals and scholarly trained personnel who would advance the course
of Guidance and Counselling in the Nigerian society. - To prepare students with focus on qualitative research and community services.

The vision of the Department is to produce excellent and exemplary world-class students in
Counselling, Applied Psychology, Research and Behavioural Sciences for solving human
problems.

The Department is committed to the production of excellent and exemplary world-class students
in Counselling and Applied Psychology through qualitative teaching and innovative research,
professional training, and promotion of positive attitude and behaviours.

Philosophy of the Department
The Department of Counselling Psychology is poised to produce highly skilled, creative, well-
focused, professional and innovative counsellors, psychologists, psychotherapists and teachers
who would collaborate and synergize with other professionals at national and global levels
through in-depth and qualitative researches, innovative teaching, effective management of
human resources and techniques and employment of problem-solving skills that would facilitate
positive growth and sustainable development of the university, the nation and the World at large.
