Excellence in academics, research and service driven by people, partnership, science and
technology. To be a leading academic Department of excellence that will train students   who will apply
Mathematics to physical and real life problems.

To be committed to the production of world class graduates for the pursuit of all-round excellence
through quality research, teaching, community service and development innovation.
To produce highly motivated and enterprising graduates with up-to-date knowledge and skills
in Mathematics for research and application purposes.

The Mathematics Programme is designed to:

• Equip the graduate with sufficient mathematics knowledge and skills that will enable them cope
  with the various challenges in the real life problems.
• Provide instruction and requisite training that are required for postgraduate studies in specialized
  areas in mathematics and inter-disciplinary research that involve mathematics.
• Develop in the student’s sustained interest, enthusiasm, awareness, and appreciation in
  mathematics and its application.
• Provide students with a broad and balanced base in mathematics knowledge and practical skills in
  statistics and computer science that can provide confidence for employment.
• Build in students a culture of continuing enquiring, carryout researches that will produce publishable and applicable results.
• Inculcate in students an appreciation of the importance of mathematics in an industrial, economic, environmental and social concept and lay a sound foundation for development of mathematical sciences as bedrock for the nation’s progress in Technology, Commerce, Industrial Development as well as codes of practice and ethics.
